Banishree Scholarship 2026-27 Eligibility Criteria

Students must meet the following conditions to apply:

• The applicant must be a bonafide resident of Odisha.
• The applicant must be a student with a certified disability.
• The student must be enrolled as a regular student in a recognised educational institution.
• The annual family income should not exceed ₹60,000.
• The applicant should not be receiving another scholarship, stipend or financial assistance from the State or Central Government under another scheme.
• The student must maintain regular attendance at the recognised institution.
• The scholarship can continue even if the student fails an academic year, provided they remain enrolled and fulfil the attendance and other eligibility conditions.

Courses Covered Under Banishree Scholarship

The scheme covers students studying at different educational levels. It includes primary education from Class 1 to 5, middle and high school from Class 6 to 10, higher secondary, graduation and postgraduate courses.

Students studying in eligible special schools may also be covered. The scheme can also apply to recognised distance education, technical, vocational and professional courses.

Students pursuing certain courses outside Odisha may also receive assistance where the course is not available within the state and the applicable conditions are satisfied.

Banishree Scholarship Benefits

The monthly scholarship amount depends on the student’s level of education:

• Primary school: ₹400 per month
• Middle and high school: ₹500 per month
• College (+2 and +3): ₹600 per month
• Postgraduate courses: ₹700 per month
• Technical and vocational training: ₹700 per month

Additional financial support may also be available. Eligible visually impaired students can receive a Reader’s Allowance of ₹200 to ₹400 per month, depending on their education level. Orthopaedically handicapped students with 75% or more disability who require special transport may receive a Transport Allowance of ₹200 per month.

Documents Required

Applicants should keep the necessary documents ready before applying. The commonly required documents include:

• Disability certificate issued by a Medical Board
• Income certificate issued by a Revenue Officer, such as a Tahasildar or above
• Marksheet of the last examination
• Bank account details, where required
• Other documents prescribed by the concerned authority

For BPL students, an income certificate may not be required, subject to the applicable rules.

4. Submit the Form: Submit the completed application form to the Head of the Educational Institution.
5. Institutional Verification: The institution will verify the details and forward the application to the concerned authority.
6. Application Approval: The concerned sanctioning authority will examine and approve the application.
7. Bank Account Verification: Ensure that the student’s bank account details are correct for receiving the scholarship.
8. Receive the Scholarship: After approval and verification, the scholarship amount will be credited directly to the student’s bank account, generally in two instalments.
