Eligibility Criteria for NMMS Registration on NSP Portal
The eligibility criteria for the NMMS Scholarship are based on domicile, academic qualification and family income. Students must fulfill the following conditions:
- Students qualified in the NMMSS Exam 2026 can apply online for Fresh Registration of Class 9 scholarship on the NSP Portal for the academic session 2026-27.
- Students qualified in the NMMSS Exam 2025 can apply for renewal of Class 10 scholarship.
- Students qualified in the NMMSS Exam 2024 can apply for renewal of Class 11 scholarship.
- Students qualified in the NMMSS Exam 2023 can apply for renewal of Class 12 scholarship.
- Students studying in Class 8 in Government, Local Body and Government-aided schools are eligible for this scheme.
- The annual parental income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 3,50,000.
- Income certificate issued by the competent authority must be uploaded during application.
- Students studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVS) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) are not eligible for the NMMS Scholarship.
- To continue the scholarship in higher secondary school, students must score at least 60% marks in Class 10 Board Examination.
- To continue receiving scholarship in Class 12, students must pass Class 11 in the first attempt with at least 55% marks. SC/ST students get a relaxation of 5% marks.

NMMS Scholarship Amount
Under the NMMS Scheme, around 1,00,000 students are selected every year for scholarship benefits. Selected students receive Rs. 12,000 per annum (Rs. 1,000 per month).
The scholarship amount is transferred directly into the student’s bank account through PFMS via SBI. The scholarship starts from Class 9 and continues up to Class 12, subject to annual academic promotion.
How to Apply for NMMS Scholarship Registration 2026-27 on NSP Portal?
Eligible students can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) by following these steps:
Step-1- One Time Registration (OTR) for Fresh Students

- Visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
- Tab on menu tab and click on Apply For One Time Registration (OTR)
- Complete the One Time Registration (OTR) using your Aadhaar number and mobile number.
Step-2 – Application Form

- After generating the OTR number, log in to the NSP Portal.
- Click on Fresh Application and select the NMMS Scholarship Scheme.
- Enter personal, academic, and bank details carefully.
- Upload all required documents.
- Click on “Save as Draft” to review the application.
- After checking all details carefully, click on “Final Submit”.
Note: Once the application is finally submitted, no correction or editing will be allowed. Therefore, applicants are advised to verify all information carefully before final submission.

Selection Process for NMMS Scholarship
The NMMS Scholarship selection test is conducted by the respective State/UT authorities as per NCERT guidelines. The examination consists of two tests:
1. Mental Ability Test (MAT)
- 90 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Tests reasoning and analytical ability
2. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
- 90 MCQs from Class 7 and 8 subjects
- Includes Mathematics, Science, and Social Science
Exam Duration
- 90 minutes for each test
- Extra time is provided for specially-abled students

About National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Scheme
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) is a centrally sponsored scheme launched by the Government of India to support meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections.
The objective of the scheme is to reduce dropout rates after Class 8 and encourage students to continue secondary and higher secondary education. Every year, 1 lakh scholarships are awarded to deserving students across India.
